After a glorious break in Berlin, I’m back in London and feeling tennis withdrawals. I ventured to Eastbourne via a quick train ride to pass the day. Can you say intimate? It turned out to be a very low key unpretentious seaside town. It was on par with Halle in terms of its intimacy but I felt much more at ease. Probably because the weather was better and I was not surrounded by a whirl of German, just English with a British accent 🙂
I bought just a grounds pass, so IÂ wandered around and caught whatever action I could on the side courts. In the end, it was mostly ladies ( I had not realized that it was historically a woman’s tourney); I could not take my eyes of two Chinese players Zheng Jie & Li Na. I particularly liked Zheng Jie, who lost to Wozniak, but was such a fireball of energy and desire. She really wanted to win that match!
