STADIUM
[Q] D Istomin (UZB) vs [WC] J Blake (USA)
G Simon (FRA) vs [WC] M Fish (USA)
P Mathieu (FRA) vs [7] T Berdych (CZE)
Sadly none of the stadium matches would get my attention, but I might take a gander at Simon vs Fish. I like Gilles but I think Fish may have this in three sets simply because he should now be rested from DC and the hometown crowd should pull him through. Plus, isn’t it like Fish to peak early and go nowhere come USO. Not on the Fish train because I simply cannot support a guy who just figured out that it might be wise to care about his weight and fitness as an athletic. Dude, that’s your bread and butter!
Not Before 7:00 PM
J Isner (USA) vs L Kubot (POL)[WC
Izzy should have this in two and as the newly annointed American hope, the crowd will love it. I wouldn’t pay for the ticket, though Izzy has gotten easier to watch as he’s getting a little better with, you know, things like volleys.
GRANDSTAND start 11:00 am
[Q] A Falla (COL) vs [16] G Monfils (FRA)
R Gasquet (FRA) vs [12] M Youzhny (RUS)
M Baghdatis (CYP) vs T Bellucci (BRA)
L Hewitt (AUS) vs Y Lu (TPE) – Possible Court Change
Not Before 7:00 PM
[15] I Ljubicic (CRO) vs D Nalbandian (ARG)
I would camp out all day on this court. I would like to see Falla, the man who almost eliminated Feddy from Wimbledon. Although Feddy’s form was off, folks are convinced there is something special about Falla. Me? Not so much. Monfils should take this in two but if he brainfarts, he should do it in three.
Gasquet may be rested enough to take out Youzhny this time around; he lost pretty easily in Toronto. Still I think Youz will frustrate enough to take it.
Baggy should take this, though he wouldn’t get much cheering from me. I am not a fan of his histrionics (still find his ankle injury in DC suspect!). Like Belluci but I think Baggy’s variety will make Belluci go for too much. I notice that his forehand likes to fly nice and long! Should be entertaining, though.
I would probably bag the Hewitt match because I find him unpleasant and Lu is not enough of a draw to keep me in my seat.
COURT 3 start 11:00 am
H Zeballos (ARG) vs P Kohlschreiber (GER)
M Llodra (FRA) vs J Benneteau (FRA)
E Gulbis (LAT) vs [WC] D Young (USA)
I would probably leave Hewitt to catch Gulbis vs Young-talented boys who fail to live up to their promise. Think Gulbis should win this face off as he’s been playing with the big boys. I have been told that Gulbis is someone one needs to ‘get.’ I am prepared to say I am ignorant ’cause I don’t get him. He may be an interesting human being ala Marat but as I am watching a sport and can’t access his humanity, I can’t generate much enthusiasm for his supposed depth.
T Bellucci (BRA) / M Melo (BRA) vs F Lopez (ESP) / F Verdasco (ESP) – After appropriate rest
This is the yummy doubles of choice and I would have secured my seat from previous singles match! This match is all about the pretties and fearsome forehands! Fer and Feli should take this one. Besides, what else will Feli do with himself! Ugh, don’t answer that! I am sure plenty of fan girls (and boys) can help him out.
COURT 4 start 11:00 am
Mayer (GER) vs J Chardy (FRA)Not Before 2:00 PM
Chardy should take this one, if he continues his good form from Toronto. I liked him last year and then he wilted. It is good to see him back.
[WC] R Ginepri (USA) / R Sweeting (USA) vs T Robredo (ESP) / R Stepanek (CZE)
W Moodie (RSA) / D Norman (BEL) vs R Lindstedt (SWE) / H Tecau (ROU)
