Dear Andy,
You know exactly what you are doing, don’t cha! I can’t kick a guy when he’s down and now that you are shockingly out of the US OPEN in round 3, my heart just aches for you. It’s always the same, isn’t it? I discover a wellspring of affection for the guy as soon as he’s out the door. Now, I think back fondly on your fighting spirit, your cocky swagger, and your earnest efforts to make your game less one-dimensional. Who would have thought America’s biggest server would be taken out by its newest model, the awkward and gangly John Isner, whose game is slightly less mindnumbing than the dreaded Ivo Karlovic’s? Fine, he served and volleyed like noone’s business!
I know that it’s a little to late to claim that I’ve loved you all along, but will you at least accept my humble apology for not recognizing that my eagerness to dismiss you was really a fangirl crush in disguise? I know that you considered retiring after your early exit from Wimbledon last year, but I hope you won’t take this early exit from the US OPEN in the same vein at all. You have been amazing in your transformation this year, just look at your compatriots who have not been so lucky (I’m talking to you James Blake!) and it suggests that you have a few more slam finals in you yet. If Wimbledon ’09 didn’t make fans love you more this year, this early loss will certainly put them firmly in your corner. Yeah, I know it’s poor consolation to be gaining fans because you lose, but think how much more they will embrace you when you finally break through and get another Slam. Come on! You know you can go the distance in Aussie Open ’10!
‘Til then I’ll be keeping up with ya through your entertaining tweets.
Sincerely,
Late on the uptake, A_Gallivant
WHAT? You spend months trashing him and now you are cozying up? Honey, get yourself together.
LOL. I just feel sorry for him. I had him going out to Verdasco, not Isner!
