Did I mention that somebody out there really loves me? Why? Because I was sitting in nosebleed seats on Thursday watching Delpo go down a break to another 20 year old, Marin Cilic. Suddenly a lovely older gentleman passed me a green piece of paper, which turned out to be a Courtside Pass Down, entitling me to take any empty seats available courtside! I was so excited at my luck that I forgot to pull my camera out until the last few games. Still I was able capture a few shots of Delpo on the move. Sadly none were up-close, so I had to scan the web for OPEN cover.
Many dismissed you as too tall and lumbering to make a run for the top five and some even thought that your childhood nemesis, Andy Murray was the THE next big thing. But the moment I saw you at Indian Wells, I knew that you were something special. Obviously, you have the big serve that is a benefit of anyone 6′ 5″ and over, but you deliver more than that with your powerful ground strokes, your baseline movement, and most important, your calm and thoughtful demeanor. No slouching shoulders for you when things don’t go your way. You dig in and keep on fighting. Sure, you have never won against your potential opponent in the US Open.
Final, Djokovic or Federer but I suspect that you may have some surprises in store for either!
