Countdown to Indian Wells–Day 10

Posted on March 4, 2010 by Agallivant

Draw ceremonies  for Davis Cup took place today. Detailed info about the various ties can be found here.

It is an anniversary of sorts because my tennis travels began a year ago when I traveled to Birmingham, Alabama to catch the US vs Switzerland Davis Cup tie. It had been years since I attended a tennis match; the last time was US Open 2006.  I had been having a devil of a time at my consulting gig and I just  needed a break. After booking a hotel in the boonies and fearing for my life, I found  The Wynfrey Hotel on Orbitz and went to Birmingham. Sadly,  I took in none of the fantastic historical sites, just tennis. Lucky me I discovered that my hotel had a shuttle service to and from the Jefferson complex and it was located next to a mall.

The restaurants near the hotel were sub-par, the entertainment nonexistent, but I did meet a lovely couple who gave me their court side tickets for the final day. I couldn’t believe my good luck, so I snapped these little pics on my cell phone to remember the view..
