In my last post, I sketched out a schedule of tournaments I hope to visit this year. I’ve already had to change it because of a wonderful new opportunity.
I will be covering Sony Open 2014 for http://www.onthegotennis.com/! It’s a great space to visit for a lighthearted approach to tennis news and gossip.
This will be my third time working as media and I’m nervous and excited at the same time. As I intend to stay in Miami for as long as I can, I couldn’t keep Delray Beach and Indian Wells on my schedule. I have been keeping up with all the changes to the BNP Paribas Open and while I’m sad I can’t have my usual weeklong visit in the desert, this trip to Miami is a dream come true. The fact that I don’t know exactly how it will go and whether I’ll even be successful in covering the tournament makes me eager to get started. I can feel the tension in the pit of my stomach and my brain whirling with ideas of how to get engaging copy and pictures. I’ll gladly sacrifice the comfort of the known world of Indian Wells for this new adventure.
In the meantime, here are a few short pieces from the last time I attended Miami in 2009:

In 2009, the Sony Ericsson Open was only the 2nd tournament (not including Davis Cup in Birmingham) that I scrimped and saved to make happen. I didn’t even have a camera to capture all the exciting moments on the court. Six years later, I get to return and see another side of the tournament as media.
Can’t wait to share stories and pictures in the coming weeks…
